First impressions aren’t exclusive to just people, they matter with your home too. The attractiveness of your home exterior also known as its “curb appeal” can not only make your home the gem of the neighbourhood but also add value to your home in general. Home Décor specialist Lisa Moo shared three simple ways to use landscaping to update your curb appeal with us that you can implement today to transform your homes exterior.
Tip #1: HARDSCAPING
Hardscaping is a great way to enhance your curb appeal. Adding paving stones to the walkway leading up to your front door can enhance the look and feel of your front yard. Large rocks are a nice addition you can use to create either a bench or perhaps a rock garden providing a stopping point for the eye when scanning the property. Water features can be fun too, a small pond or birdbath can transform an empty corner of your yard into a stopping point for birds. Encourage birds to frequent your yard and your guests will love to sit and watch them.
Tip #2: SOFTSCAPING – GARDEN TOUCHES
Another way to attract birds into your yard is with birdfeeders. A hummingbird feeder is inexpensive and brings our national bird outside your bedroom window. Other softscaping features like planters and garden art may also be used to add personality to your yard. For example with a planter you can have a large variety of plants with numerous colors and types. Some people will put a big planter near their outside sitting area and plant some variation of Lemon Grass, Citronella, Oregano, Lemon Thyme, and Marigolds which are all great for warding off mosquitos.
Tip #3: SOFTSCAPING - TREES
“I think it should be law in Jamaica” Ms Moo says with a laugh, “that every yard should have Poinciana, Bougainvillea and Pouis trees because they are so beautiful when they bloom. They are also hardy and don’t require much maintenance. As far as I know they bloom in droughts as well, so even when the green is fading there are still some nice flowers to look at.”
